Our Revit families of hangers and supports are created from smaller components (bolt, nuts, washers, unistruts, rods, clamps, etc.) as shared nested families, which enables you to get accurate bills of materials through Revit schedules. In this way, every single component can be accounted for.
This applies to the Structural Connections library of hangers. The Mechanical Equipment library uses nested components which aren't 'shared'. This makes these families faster in Revit but it reduces the scheduling capabilities
You can create your own schedules or copy our template schedules from the sample projects that you can find on this page. To do that:
Open both projects (sample project and own project) in the same Revit window.
In the sample project, right click on the name of the schedule you want to copy in the Project Browser, and choose 'Copy to Clipboard'.
In the target project, use the Paste command on the Manage ribbon, or type CTRL+V to paste the schedule into the project.
To help with scheduling, hanger families and their components are divided into 4 main groups. Every family has one of these values in their Model parameter: 'Complete Hanger', 'Hangers Part' (for clamps, brackets, etc.), 'Miscellaneous' (for rods, bolt, nuts, anchors, etc.) and 'Drilling Point'. You can use this parameter to apply filters in your Revit schedules.
Families of hangers and supports have shared parameters (parameters that can be used in schedules or tags). Below are the shared parameters that you can find in hanger families or hanger components.
For rod lengths, there are '1 Rod Length' (length of the first rod or the single rod), '2 Rod Length' (length of the second rod) and 'Combined Rod Length'.
'Clamp Inside Diameter' describes the outermost (including insulation thickness if 'Over Insulation' is enabled) diameter of a round MEP element (pipe, conduit, round duct). This parameter can be found in both the hanger and the component families (e.g., pipe clamp).
'Unistrut Length' and 'Cantilever Length' can also be found both in the hanger and the component families.
When more than one unistrut is present in a hanger family, 'Unistrut Length' represents the combined length of all unistruts. But in a 'Unistrut Channel' family, itʼs the length of a particular piece.
When a hanger is made up of one piece (e.g., suspension band hanger), the 'Total Length' parameter represents the total length of that piece.
'Total Length' is also a rod length in a 'Threaded Rod' component family.
All hanger families have the 'MEP Service Type' and the 'Hanger Mark' text parameters.
In every hanger family, the 'MEP Service Type' is associated with the same parameters in the component families that are nested inside. This way, all the component instances will receive the same 'MEP Service Type' value as entered in the main hanger family. Our tool will automatically fill in the 'MEP Service Type' parameter value when the hanger is inserted. This parameter gets the Family Name of the MEP service that itʼs inserted onto: Pipe, Round Duct, Rectangular Duct, Cable Tray (with or without Fittings), or Conduit (with or without Fittings). Using this parameter, you can filter hangers by MEP service.
'Hanger Mark' is meant for individually marking hangers and supports.
By using these parameters, you can create detailed bills of materials or hanger specifications. Examples below are in metric units, but the same can be achieved in imperial as well.
