# Split & Cut SIP Parts

## <mark style="color:purple;">"Split Parts" Type Parameter</mark>

In the Paneling (Parts) configurations for SIP Insulation as well as internal and external boards, **Vertical Split by "Split Part"** as well as **Horizontal Split by "Split Part"** tick marks are turned on:

<figure><img src="/files/1WRwECOG5Et8d088b1nA" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/INjIJ4oaR5MlYK8PidQx" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This means that Parts are split by those Structural framing elements, which have the "<mark style="color:purple;">**Split Parts**</mark>" parameter turned **ON** in their Type Properties:<br>

<figure><img src="/files/vsyIsa78WKM2uNIkZ069" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

However, certain elements should have this tick mark turned **OFF**. It all depends on your standards and situations. \
\
\&#xNAN;*<mark style="color:blue;">Example 1</mark>*

If this Free Start Connection Stud had the "<mark style="color:purple;">**Split Parts**</mark>" parameter turned **ON**, we'd have this small strip of internal & external paneling created because it would split the parts:

<figure><img src="/files/5FRvCS7cAoegsA0SEadd" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

So, in these situations, we should create element types that have the "<mark style="color:purple;">**Split Parts**</mark>" parameter turned **OFF** and use them in the Framing Configuration. \
In this example, we need to use it for the Free Start & Free End Connection stud:<br>

<figure><img src="/files/U9Xpjmh5iuQAzGVMm1hQ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Then, the element will not split parts and as a result, we won't get the small strip of OSB:\ <br>

<figure><img src="/files/B7IDCNgwg67WBuD4nXew" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

*<mark style="color:blue;">Example 2</mark>*

Let's explore another example with an opening. If the King Studs would have the "<mark style="color:purple;">**Split Parts**</mark>" parameter turned **ON**:

<figure><img src="/files/INHFJgA9xiJo552rQ30E" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

We'd get a small gap between the opening and the split, resulting in a single OSB board with a narrow strip on each opening side:

<figure><img src="/files/cmBxqpHKsoemohXYiD99" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Instead, we need to create two boards/panels: one below and another one above the opening. To do this, we'll create a Stud Type that has the "<mark style="color:purple;">**Split Parts**</mark>" parameter turned **OFF** and use it in the Opening Configuration for King Studs:

<figure><img src="/files/tQ7PIbITysDacV0l9TqQ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/BZVvZ28GANh2FmvlHpvW" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Now, the King Studs do not split the parts, and narrow OSB strips are not created, which is exactly what we need. However, we still need to split the OSB on the opening sides:

<figure><img src="/files/gjyTTyxCVSwxcbHUZKpB" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

To do this, we can choose **Vertical Split on Opening Side** -> "**Opening Side**" in the Paneling Configuration for insulation as well as internal and external OSB panels (all three SIP part layers) and enter a **Minimal Width of Opening for Split** value, if we don't need the split for smaller openings:

<figure><img src="/files/kT9zvKcpJBWapQAl0Hfv" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

As a result, the parts were split on each opening side:

<figure><img src="/files/zP7OpjoSSV57wvHXNQ54" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

And because we entered a **Minimal Width of Opening for Split** value, the split was not created for smaller openings:

## <mark style="color:purple;">Cut Parts (Insulation)</mark>

As explained above, in the Paneling (Parts) configurations for Insulation as well as internal and external boards, **Vertical Split by "Split Part"** as well as **Horizontal Split by "Split Part"** tick marks are turned on. This means that Parts are split by those Structural framing elements, which have the "<mark style="color:purple;">**Split Parts**</mark>" parameter turned **ON** in their Type Properties.

Additionally, for the Insulation layer, we also need to cut the Parts with the Structural Framing elements (Studs, Joists, Plates, etc.). To do this, we need to make sure that the **Vertical Elements Cut Panels** and **Horizontal Elements Cut Panels** tick marks are turned **ON** in the Paneling Configuration for the insulation layer:

<figure><img src="/files/x5eDBdbfxchS7726jcc2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This means, that all Structural Framing elements (Studs, Joists, Plates, etc.) that have the "**Cut with Voids When Loaded**" tick mark turned **ON** in the Revit Family Editor, will cut the Insulation correctly:<br>

<figure><img src="/files/yX9TqJNa5U6cK3huaYEL" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

As a result, Insulation parts will not only be split but also **cut** by the Structural Framing elements:
