# Specifying Unistrut Increments for Fabrication and Family-based Hangers

When placing unistrut (trapeze) hangers, you might need the unistrut part to have a specific increment. With MEP Hangers, it's possible to specify an increment for both family-based and Fabrication Hangers.

### Unistrut Increments for Fabrication Hangers

If you are modeling your MEP systems using Revit's **Fabrication Part** functionality, you will need to use Fabrication Hangers.

To be able to control the unistrut increment for Fabrication unistrut hangers, first, you will need to create a Project Parameter. You can find Project Parameters under the Manage tab in Revit.

Here, click the icon for '**New Parameter**'.

The new parameter must be named '**Unistrut Increment**', it needs to be a **Type** parameter, and the discipline and the type must be set to '**Common**' and '**Length**'. It also needs to be assigned to the '**MEP Fabrication Hangers**' category. Click **OK** to finish.

Now find a unistrut (trapeze) hanger in your project, open the Type Properties, and enter your preferred value in the '**Unistrut Increment**' parameter. Click **OK**.

And that's it! From now on, this particular Fabrication Hanger type will be placed with the preset unistrut increment. In this example, I'm using **metric** units, but it will work with **imperial** as well.

Also, if after the hanger insertion you need to modify the unistrut hanger by dragging one or both of its rods, you can use '**Update Size**' to correct the unistrut length according to the same predefined increment.

### Unistrut Increments for family-based hangers

For family-based hangers, it's even simpler since our provided families already have the '**Unistrut Increment**' parameter.

In the Type Properties of unistrut hanger families, you will find the '**Use Unistrut Increments**' parameter. If the checkbox is ticked, the family will use the value specified in the '**Unistrut Increment**'.
