# Introduction

**CLT Panels** lets Revit® users instantly create cross-laminated timber floor, roof slabs and wall panels of any shape or complexity. Functions are versatile, parameters easy to control, and changes occur in real time. No more drafting – just design and decide, knowing you’ll get a high-quality model.

Plus the software generates views with automatic dimensions for panels or segments as well as accurate bills of materials and shop drawings. So quality production and accurate assembly on site are ensured.

<figure><img src="/files/nA0LCMsfjFdUdUHkAeSh" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Connectors, cuts, supports, and other details can be distributed based on predefined rules or connection types. They can then be modified or updated to suit the project design stage and the level of detail required. CLT panels and connections can be modified and updated whenever the project is changed. Dynamic update functionality can make changes to CLT panels of the same type at once.

<div><figure><img src="/files/PlmLDXm3N7EvRMRHSndW" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/Mi70CyuAxaSgM0aWqSPX" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

# User Interface

### &#x20;Ribbon & sub-menus

<figure><img src="/files/PfwdX3l5FjbnqiMhH75k" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In the ribbon, there are six top-level functions: Frame, Elements, Document, Link, Configurations, and Settings. Here is what each of those is for.

<table><thead><tr><th width="151"></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th><th data-hidden></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Frame</strong></td><td>Functionality needed for modeling frames with CLT panels</td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Elements</strong></td><td>Functionality needed for creating connections common for CLT structures</td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Document</strong></td><td>Functionality needed for numbering elements and creating shop drawings</td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Link Type</strong></td><td>Use this to create links for walls, floors, and roofs.</td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Configs</strong></td><td>Enter, create and modify all needed rules for modeling, numbering, dimensioning, etc.</td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Settings</strong></td><td>Load all needed families for CLT Structures automatically, browse configuration files’ locations, and transfer element types and standards.</td><td></td><td></td></tr></tbody></table>

You’ll be able to open multiple floating tabs (containing commands for Frame, Elements, and Document) and minimize them to save working space, like so:

<figure><img src="/files/Sj80EqSLMoZfEXtyNgC8" alt="" width="331"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Frame tab

In the **Frame** tab, you have all the functionality needed for modeling: creating the layout/structure for the CLT panels and other framing elements or layers (like Secondary Frames, Nailers, as well as Splitting Parts to create CLT Panels or Sheathing and Paneling layers). There are also commands for modifying the structure after it has been created using the **Frame** command.\
\
With the new interface, you’ll be able to Frame, Split Parts, and Modify the structure of Walls, Floors, and Roofs using the same commands; whereas in the old UI, you had to use Wall+ for Walls, Floor+ for Floors, etc.

<figure><img src="/files/JzrTIh6zoD3dOQNMEWjr" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Elements tab

In the **Elements** tab, you’ll find functionality needed for creating common CLT connections, such as dovetails, half laps, etc. You’ll be able to distribute them automatically using predefined custom rules based on your own standards, as well as modify them.

<div><figure><img src="/files/PlmLDXm3N7EvRMRHSndW" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/vspGnnax5IFZMU5Pk7dM" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

### Document tab

<figure><img src="/files/3TXXrTSWDTkN029ipLcl" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### Design CLT at a whole new level

So, that’s an overview of the CLT Panels software. We’re confident it will help optimize your work and greatly reduce the time you have to spend on manual tasks.

# Workflow - Step by Step

We want to make it as simple as possible for you to try out our CLT solution on your own. In this article, I’ll go through the basic steps to follow so that your use of the software is as hassle-free as possible.

{% hint style="info" %}
*Since these instructions are meant to simplify **testing** of Wood Framing CLT, I have used our sample configurations and families throughout.*

*Just keep in mind that **all these sample rules can be modified to your own needs and standards.***
{% endhint %}

I’ll be referring to these functions throughout this article:

**Tools and functions of Wood Framing CLT**

<figure><img src="/files/PfwdX3l5FjbnqiMhH75k" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In the ribbon, there are six top-level functions:

<table><thead><tr><th width="151"></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th><th data-hidden></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Frame</strong></td><td>Functionality needed for modeling frames with CLT panels</td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Elements</strong></td><td>Functionality needed for creating connections common for CLT structures</td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Document</strong></td><td>Functionality needed for numbering elements and creating shop drawings</td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Link Type</strong></td><td>Use this to create links for walls, floors, and roofs.</td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Configs</strong></td><td>Enter, create and modify all needed rules for modeling, numbering, dimensioning, etc.</td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Settings</strong></td><td>Load all needed families for CLT Structures automatically, browse configuration files’ locations, and transfer element types and standards.</td><td></td><td></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Example workflow for CLT project creation in Revit

After starting a new Revit project, make sure you save it. ![icon](https://agacad.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Save-icon.png)

{% hint style="info" %}
By the way, the 9 STEPS outlined below can be seen in this tutorial video:
{% endhint %}

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/-Wg_hLrz-cU>" %}

### **STEP 1: Load families**

Choose the sample families to be loaded into the current project. **Wood Framing CLT** provides sample **Metric** and **Imperial** families for creating frames with connections common for CLT structures, tag families, and sample schedules.

<figure><img src="/files/W327dwcEAdTZpbIs5lIV" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<table><thead><tr><th>If you’ll be designing only the CLT structure, loading families from CLT Catalogs is sufficient:</th><th>Optional sample family catalogs:</th><th data-hidden></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><mark style="color:purple;"><strong>CLT Catalogs</strong></mark></td><td><mark style="color:purple;"><strong>Floor, Roof &#x26; Wall Catalogs</strong></mark></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>CLT Families</strong> – sample families for creating frames with connections common for CLT structures</td><td><strong>Additional Families</strong> – sample families for creating additional floor/roof/wall layers, like timber secondary frames, horizontal or vertical nailers, battens, etc. or main timber frames with studs/joists</td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>CLT Schedules</strong> – sample schedules for CLT panels</td><td><strong>Additional Schedules</strong> – sample schedules for floor/roof/wall additional layers</td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Tag Families</strong> – sample tag families</td><td><strong>Finish Families</strong> – sample families for creating floor/roof/wall finish layers, like flooring, roofing, siding</td><td></td></tr></tbody></table>

### **STEP 2: Transfer standards**

‘Template Project’ is a Revit file with sample Wall, Floor and Roof types, standards, and annotations. The ‘Template Project’ feature allows users to transfer all needed information from a template project, eliminating the need to create Wall/Floor/Roof types and other needed elements or standards from scratch for every new project.

<figure><img src="https://agacad.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Transfer-project-standards.png" alt="software UI"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

So, before working with the software, we recommend using these features (numbers 2-6 in the image above).

1. **Template Project Location** – the path to your template project. Wood Framing CLT comes with a sample Template Project, which is mapped here automatically.

{% hint style="info" %}
*When starting out, we recommend using the sample template project that comes with the software and is automatically mapped already. Later on, of course, you can create and use your own.*
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://agacad.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Template-project-location.png" alt="software UI"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2\. **Transfer Wall Types** – transfer wall types from the projects which is defined in ‘Template Project Location’ to the current project.

3\. **Transfer Floor Types** – transfer floor types from the projects which is defined in ‘Template Project Location’ to the current project.

4\. **Transfer Roof Types** – transfer roof types from the projects which is defined in ‘Template Project Location’ to the current project.

{% hint style="info" %}
For steps 2-4 (above), you can transfer only the types containing ‘CLT’ in their name.
{% endhint %}

*An example using the metric sample template project and ‘Transfer Wall Types’:*

<figure><img src="https://agacad.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Transfer-Wall-types.png" alt="software UI"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

5\. **Transfer Standards** – Opens Revit’s ‘Transfer Project Standards’ dialog window. You then need to manually select various styles, types, and settings, which need to be transferred from the Template Project File to the Current Project.

For a smooth workflow, we recommend that you select at least these 6 options:

* [x] **Text Types**
* [x] **View Reference Types**
* [x] **View Templates**
* [x] **Viewport Types**
* [x] **Dimension Styles**
* [x] **Filters**

You can select more options if needed.

<figure><img src="https://agacad.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Select-items-to-copy.png" alt="software UI"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

6\. **Transfer Annotations** – loads and overwrites Tags, Callout Heads, Section Heads, Section View Types, and Title Blocks and copies Legend Views and Schedules from the projects that is defined in the ‘Template Project Location’ to the current project.

#### Modeling CLT panel system in Revit

Now, assuming you already have…

* the necessary sample families loaded using ‘Load Families’ **(Step 1)**
* all types and standards transferred to new/current project **(Step 2)**

…then you can move on to creating the architectural model to be auto-framed with CLT panels.

### **STEP 3: Creating basic Revit walls, floors, and roofs**

In this example, I modeled a few walls and a floor using the types that were transferred from the template project. I also used a **‘3D CLT’ View Template** for the 3D View:

<figure><img src="/files/9clpznFFAz6tyXONV5L9" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

After the model is created, we can start using the sample configurations to create CLT panels.

### **STEP 4: Link type**

<figure><img src="https://agacad.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Link-Type-button.png" alt="software UI"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The sample walls/floors/roofs have only one layer for the CLT structure, and this is how we should set up the link:

<figure><img src="/files/skGT69wtwfwOpF1Okr0h" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
*This example is with a wall, but the logic is the same for floors and roofs.*

<table><thead><tr><th width="67"></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>1</td><td>Selected wall/floor/roof type</td><td></td></tr><tr><td>2</td><td>‘Frame’ should be selected in the ‘<strong>Framing Layer’</strong></td><td></td></tr><tr><td>3</td><td>‘<strong>Framing Configuration’</strong> – select a framing configuration with the definition of all framing parameters. CLT panels are created as parts, so this tick mark should be unticked for the CLT Layer.</td><td></td></tr></tbody></table>

### **STEP 5: Create frame**

First, let’s run the ‘**Number Types**‘ command, which will number all host elements, namely, walls, floors, and roofs:

<figure><img src="/files/xW5eVTm1DFPFNA1lk8Vx" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

That’s it! Now select all of the walls, floors, and roofs, and use ‘**Create Frame**‘.

{% hint style="warning" %}
*Make sure you select elements from the wall, floor, or roof category — not parts!*
{% endhint %}

In this example, CLT panels with half-lap connections were generated:

<figure><img src="/files/zsxk8LPQHXvxyZMQOjp8" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Result:

<figure><img src="/files/GcanuBOLGhOyMlJIxIS0" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
I demonstrate the process from ***STEP 5: Create Frame*** in the webinar embedded below. Various ways of modifying the frames after they have been created are also shown. Start viewing from about 10:45.
{% endhint %}

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/jU3S6PhbTDA?t=645>" %}

### **STEP 6: Insert connections common for CLT structures**

Now, let’s insert half-lap connections for L and T connections in our wall panels.

Select all wall Parts, and then use ‘**Auto-Insert**‘:

<figure><img src="/files/Jj4JJW41vbCo0edEQcNu" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

As a result, half-lap connections were created for L-joins and also, cuts for T-joins:

<figure><img src="/files/unY3VzsP98nIQLsIpyPk" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### **STEP 7: Number elements**

Some of the parameter values that are common for CLT structures can be **entered manually**, before numbering the panels based on predefined rules.\
\
For example, I can enter:

<table><thead><tr><th width="264"></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>FM_CLT_Visual Q_Int</strong><br><strong>FM_CLT_Visual Q_Ext</strong></td><td>Visual quality for interior and exterior sides of the panel</td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>FM_CLT_Grain Dir</strong></td><td>Grain direction (ON – horizontal, OFF – vertical)</td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>FM_CLT_Unit Number</strong></td><td>Unit number – it can represent separate buildings in the project or something else of that nature</td><td></td></tr></tbody></table>

<figure><img src="/files/vKBzUx68TIhbcenQBiIn" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In the image below, in the **Numbering Rules** window (1), you can choose all needed rules for various categories (like Walls, Parts, Structural Framing, Structural Connections, etc.) and their parameters, which should be filled in, in a single configuration.

Also, you’ll be able to assign configurations that should be used with ‘**Number Types**‘ and ‘**Number Elements**‘ commands (2):

<figure><img src="/files/k8ZZQgJagk8zKi9ucdrL" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Now, when we’ll run the ‘**Number Elements**‘ command, all elements will be numbered by the sample configurations assigned in the ‘Numbering Rules’. As you can see, **‘FM\_CLT\_Part Level**‘ was calculated and filled in. Also ‘**Mark**’ parameter value, and so on:

<figure><img src="/files/v9lqO6g953pPq1JWBnM7" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### **STEP 8: Insert tags**

After numbering the elements, we can select all needed parts and use ‘**Insert Tags**’. After that, 3D Tags will be inserted, where you’ll see previously entered Visual Quality parameter values for the interior and exterior sides of the panel:

<figure><img src="/files/PyYF53SdVMblwI1jWoTA" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

*<mark style="color:red;">These 3D Tags are Structural Framing category elements that are being used as Tags.</mark>*

{% hint style="warning" %}
*If you don’t want to see these tags in the 3D View, you can hide them, but you should still insert them, as we’ll be using these 3D Tags to tag panels when creating shop drawings in the following step.*\
*If you do not insert them, then the panels will not have tags in the shop drawings!*
{% endhint %}

*<mark style="color:red;">Of course, these are only sample configurations and can be adjusted to your needs later.</mark>*

### **STEP 9: Create shop drawings**

Finally, you can select all numbered and tagged parts and use ‘**Create Assembly**’. In this example, I’m creating an assembly of a wall panel, so I’ll choose the ‘**CLT Wall Panel**’ sample configuration:

<figure><img src="/files/UyxoWpXlZuZyoyLRaUGA" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You’ll find all generated views and schedules in the **Project Browser** under **Assemblies**. All views will have dimensions, and tags added automatically:

<figure><img src="https://agacad.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Shop-Drawing-1024x730.png" alt="technical drawing"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

We chose horizontal grain direction for this panel in **STEP 7**, so now, in the Elevation Front view, we have the automatically added tag showing us the horizontal direction, as well as the Mark (*U1\_142*) of this part and the visual quality (*V-ext (V-int)*):

<figure><img src="https://agacad.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Elevation-Front-View.png" alt="technical drawing of a wall panel"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
All sample configurations used in this explanation can be found and modified under ‘**Configs**’, here:

The layers to be framed need to be selected in the **Frame** column in **Link Wall**:

![](/files/8TH9gUFJdsPrca1nlLrw)

![](/files/C2VNHvZsctsNW7bSucEG)

# Validate Walls

![](/files/gN90ISupuxUGANVz9cf4)

**Validate Walls –** checks if the walls in the current project fit the predefined settings. Only validated walls should be framed.

Predefine the settings for wall validation → click **Check Walls in Project**.

![](/files/PJqLAda7m13t7K3io59K)

*Result:*

**Wall+** scans all walls in the current project and provides a report as to whether they fit the predefined sizes:

![](/files/fZtRwIzicMCyocruxtVJ)

**Wall+** also analyzes the layers in the wall and gives a report about the wall types.

*For example, **Wall+** will frame the layer if it has a material assigned, so there is an option to select **Wall layer must have material assigned** and check all wall types. In this same dialog, you can click **Edit Type** and go to wall type modification where you have the option to assign the needed material.*

![](/files/pF6QPIshKvmPPFcpUPCl)

Here you can assign the needed material and this wall type will be ready for the framing process:

![](/files/cBUP6iR3KOsA7awJNojx)

After adding a material, close the dialog and run **Validate Walls** again to make sure the problem has been solved.

### Add Studs

![](/files/HQO4eysdAt7FNsdgI7A5)

**Add Studs –** adds studs with rules listed below to the frame. The frame can be created without studs, just using, for example, horizontal elements.

### Align with Project Base Point

![](/files/8wgGZ1JiHbLuCTYBNpPm)

**Align with Project Base Point –** allows studs to be positioned not only in relation to each other but according to Revit gridlines.

Studs are positioned on the gridlines – and where necessary to fill in gaps or form intersections – so that they always match up across a corridor or room.

Notice how the studs are spaced according to the grid:

![](/files/CnZ8DiVbpjFQsFmuhdvK)

First step – unclip the state of the Revit **Project Base Point** and move it to the needed position:

![](/files/QBkoP7AeiP5aUQCWaxA1)

For more convenience, switch on Revit **Work Plane** and move it to the **Project Base Point**. It will help you to understand if the studs or joists are created in the right position:

![](/files/I5kKiQhOHQCW3F6h6Efo)

Turn on **Align with Project Base Point** in the **Framing Configuration** dialog:

![](/files/I0467Dsezj4gnT2jrOiE)

Frame the walls, floors, or roof:

![](/files/OwBhHg8OCjuSbmNmsO9A)

In the case you need to relocate the frame, just move the **Project Base Point** to the new position and update the frame!

### Stud Spacing and First/Last Spacing

![](/files/6A63o1P7XIa4Qe45ZlZ9)

**Stud Spacing** – defines the distance between the studs.

![](/files/fyAqGoKJHCPfoDAKQoTm)

**First/Last Spacing** – defines common stud offset. Offset direction can be defined either from the first or the last, or both last studs. **First/Last Spacing** is dependent on the exterior side of wall as shown below. The beginning of the armament starts from the left side looking from the exterior side of a wall.

![](/files/PY4EQiWAlFTGSWBOXQLS)

**First/Last Spacing** – first spacing will be on the side of the left side, and last on the right side.

![](/files/FyvMIS7sq0VNhXFV2XcQ)

### Custom Join

![](/files/drXkgJEMe2cNhaQtQLeT)

**Custom Join** – is a multi-functional dialog where user can define rules for studs including size, count, position, rotation, spacing, alignment etc. All these rules can be saved and used in other framing configurations or shared with other users. This type of dialog is used frequently in our products, so here you can find [**Custom Join detailed description**](/3d-modeling-and-design/wood-framing/common/wood-metal-framing/custom-join)

### Sloped and Non-Sloped Plates are symmetrical

**FM Module Type**

For Windows, Doors, and Openings – writes opening type (Window, Door, Opening, JoinedOpening).

For Connections – writes join configuration name.

**FM Module Mark** – writes **FM Module Type** + **Mark** (from Wall) + **Mark** (from Window, Door or Opening) + unique number.

**FM Module Preassembled –** writes Yes/No if element is (or is not) included in the preassembly.

*Example:*

*King is included in the preassembly so **FM Module Type** parameter has Window value, because this King belongs to the window, **FM Module Mark** parameter contains **FM Module Type** parameter value (Window) + current wall **Mark** value (can be seen near **FM HostMemberSortMark**) + current window **Mark** + unique number.*

![](/files/vNJvXC3Igl4B7e3KeyMU)

All these parameters can later be used in the schedules and view filters.

<figure><img src="/files/VrZ7WMjR42fBsssOgm23" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Disallow Join Walls

Let's say we have a situation when a wall is connected in the plan view, but it disallowed to join in Revit. By default, **Wall+** will recognize this situation as T connection:

<figure><img src="/files/a0BCEqYIRSyiygnWLtWU" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

To solve this, select joiner wall and find instance or type parameter **Ignore Disallowed Joint Connection**, make it ON. If it has such parameter with value = ON, T join will not be created.

<figure><img src="/files/ooMxXLlV526xjNS8iUR5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Go to **Wall+** **→ Update Frame →** no more T connection:

<figure><img src="/files/s5DLrdXFHEc6KfUvCnKV" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Secondary Stud** – settings to add secondary stud system. It has the same settings as **Blocking/Nogging**.

![](/files/SyJCAgp5xgv9kIFqvI7D)

**Align with Project Base Point** - You can align a Secondary Stud system with the Project Base Point.\
&#x20;

With the ‘Align with Project Base Point’ feature, you can space and align all studs at the same time. Project Base Point handles positioning in a more robust manner: instead of directly defining the spacing only between the studs, you also define the grid spacing, and the function takes care of the rest. Studs from the Main Frame and Secondary Stud system are positioned on the gridlines so that they always match throughout the whole project.\
&#x20;

Notice how the studs of both the Main Frame and the Secondary Stud system are spaced according to the grid:

# Family - Siding Profile Modification

### Edit Family

Select the siding profile and click on **Edit Family.**

![](/files/lQuAaPPw2KvJ1HA0IO4p)

### Edit nested family

**Find** in the Project Browser and **Edit** the nested family - **Siding profile.**

![](/files/nMZ7BEhhitcI3gEkmbVd)

### Modify the profile

To change the profile, start drawing lines. Use the split element and trim or delete command to achieve your desired profile.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** *make sure the lines form a closed contour without intersecting lines. Hover over the contour and click **Tab**. It will highlight the profile.*
{% endhint %}

![](/files/Cb36fA3Cwa60z7MuPGAF)

### Modify the parameters

Once lines are in place, set up all the necessary parameters. Under the **Family Types**, you will see all the parameters.

![](/files/vBnAN4SZZEc4S6B0YcBd)

Let's start with the parameters **Last** and **First**. These parameters define how the siding family will act if it needs to be cut along its length.

![](/files/Is4Mja2jNgw4bGudZ0Z5)

When the parameter **Last** is true, the top of the profile has to become horizontal.

![](/files/MWg1W7WFWyX32cR9DnCa)

When the parameter **First** is true, the bottom of the profile has to become horizontal.

![](/files/HdoLOmIQ2YHyWfC0W2zX)

Parameters **CH\_D** and **CH\_DS** are the ones that modify the lines that are at the top and bottom of the profile if **Last** or **First** is true.

![](/files/cHvikXuBDyBPwD8luz1r)

Now that our geometry is modified, we must also alter those parameters, e.g., the Sample siding profile family has three lines. The customized siding profile family has five lines. That is why in the **CH\_D** and **CH\_DS** formulas, **d/3** has to become **d/5**.

Correct the parameters according to your geometry.

* Dimension **CH\_D** has to become "=if(or(Last True, Lengthen), d/5, d/3)"
* Dimension **CH\_DS** has to become "=if(First, d/5, d/3)

![](/files/2jkFAIv3wEEPQenyCIqb)

Now we can edit witness lines according to the new geometry. Ensure lines are equal and the dimension has the "d" value.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** *increase the "d" value before editing witness lines.*
{% endhint %}

![](/files/HeNAS1xLap3uE80ATTTp)

### Create Instance Parameters

We need additional Instance parameters as we now have additional lines at the top and bottom of the profile. Let's create a new instance parameter **CH\_D0** and assign it to one of the lines that should be vertical when the profile is not cut along its length. This parameter sets the line length equal to d/5 if Last is true and 0 if not (line becomes vertical).

Create an **Instance parameter** that works with the formula - if(or(Last True, Lengthen), d/5, 0) and assign it as shown below.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** *In this situation, dimensions must be set to the endpoints of lines. Otherwise, the profile will be over-constrained. Use **Tab** to select endpoints.*
{% endhint %}

![](/files/zcXbklN76wpoKrZqMPxf)

Assign the **CH\_D** instance parameter for the other three horizontal lines, as shown below.

![](/files/HvcK8QdBaIDVnOw9lxEO)

Add an **instance parameter** as shown below (**CH\_L4**) to regulate the height of additional lines created. Add formula to that parameter - if(or(Last True, Lengthen), 0, 15) to change the height to zero if the parameter **Last** is True.

![](/files/Yp5z0RCBPZf8MZvb37HK)

Apply a similar procedure to the bottom of the profile. Create additional **Instance parameters** that would make the bottom of the profile horizontal if First is true. E.g., **CH\_L5** will align the lines to the reference plane (length is 0) if First is true and will have a length of 15 (you can change this length according to your needs) if not. The parameter **CH\_DS0** will have a horizontal length of d/5 (as we mentioned before, now we do have five lines, so we divide the d value of those five lines) if First is true, and it would become vertical (length equals 0) if not.

Create **Instance parameters** with formulas:

* Instance parameter with formula =if(First, 0, 15)
* Instance parameter with formula =if(First, d/5, 0)

![](/files/PSEOZZ7WyqrqBRzm3N6W)

Add the **"d"** constraint at the bottom of the profile.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** *if the profile consists of more than two main parallel lines, it is recommended to create ref. planes, assign "d" constraint between them and attach the lines to those ref. planes. Otherwise, assigning the "d" constrain directly to those lines is enough.*
{% endhint %}

![](/files/qxoLWMNQW3iKGv8bR9Aj)

According to the new geometry, change **CH\_L3** and **Min Spacing** formulas instead of "d/2" to "d/3".

![](/files/e8djJFQDkY75zid5Xgwn)

### Constrain the cut-out

Constrain the cut-out. Otherwise, the profile won't make a closed contour when **Last** or **First** is true. After this step, make sure to test the family to see if it works properly when:

**Last** is true

**Spacing** is lower than **Standard Spacing**

**First** is true

![](/files/Smb99E3HgwBW7Tlr72cx)

With all these parameters set, the profile should act as shown below.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** *Ensure that the cut-out won't intersect with lines at the bottom of a profile and doesn't create a double contour loop.*
{% endhint %}

![](/files/VBxpItMfkScacO3ZLUG3)

Once all these steps are done, and the family works correctly, load it to the 3D Siding family and then to the Revit project.

**Use for all Vertical/Horizontal Framing Elements (except Openings)** – if ON, then the selected Joist and Rim Joist families will be used for other vertical/horizontal framing elements, like connections, bridgings, noggings, etc. without an option to change it to a custom family.

**Main Type of Joists** (or **Rim Joists**) – pick a family and type for the Joist or Rim Joist.

Sample joist and rim joist families that come with **Floor+**:

*Metric Joist – **M\_WF Joist.rfa***

*Metric Rim Joist – **M\_WF Rim-Bridging Joist.rfa***

*Imperial Joist – **I\_WF Joist.rfa***

*Imperial Rim Joist – **I\_WF Rim-Bridging Joist.rfa***

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Note:** *Do not use any other families! You can use other families only in special cases.* [***Contact us***](https://helpdesk.agacad.com/support/tickets/new)
{% endhint %}

**Width (b)** – shows the width b parameter value of the selected family type.

**Depth (h, d)** – shows the depth h or d parameter value of the selected family type.

**Define Depth (h, d) by Layer Thickness** – the software will create a new type for the selected family and change the depth value to the floor layer thickness so that the frames will fit the layer in the wall.

**Floor Frame Panels** – if ON, then floor frames are assembled in factory; if OFF – assembled on site.

# Floor Framing

**Framing Configuration** may be found in two locations:

![](/files/craFpxxAZwwcMNUwI02k)

or:

![](/files/QFPEhcyumERDMm9PoW6M)

### Floor Framing – Common Joists

![](/files/OgV7zTivKwlUM7PnTH7A)

**Common Joists** – here you can control regular joists (**Common Joist** tab), top (**Rim Joist 2** tab) joists and bottom (**Rim Joist 1** tab) joists:

![](/files/Jng93A4MqpNt4Vzb5QQ9)

### Add Joists

![](/files/for0yMKqrowVqiGsHVQl)

**Add Joists –** adds joists with rules listed below to the frame. The frame can be created without joists, just using, for example, horizontal elements.

### Align with Project Base Point

![](/files/UHUDvuLYOEfFwJdIz4so)

**Align with Project Base Point –** allows joists to be positioned not only in relation to each other but according to Revit gridlines.

First step – unclip the state of the Revit **Project Base Point** and move it to the needed position:

![](/files/vxDyZToOL9rmiCFoh47J)

For more convenience, switch on Revit **Work Plane** and move it to the **Project Base Point**. It will help you to understand if the studs or joists are created in the right position:

![](/files/TFxONckq6yAG555aMCSm)

Turn on **Align with Project Base Point** in the **Framing Configuration** dialog:

![](/files/kqRwWeUHBbvvLS3XLCGz)

Frame the walls, floors, or roof.

Joists are positioned on the gridlines – and where necessary to fill in gaps or form intersections – so that they always match up across a corridor or room.

Notice how the joists are spaced according to the grid.

![](/files/OgmQqOmxxkz8m3QPNleW)

In the case you need to relocate the frame, just move the **Project Base Point** to the new position and update the frame!

### Joist Spacing and First/Last Spacing

![](/files/tfDurRiTQqdHLwSgrQEx)

**Joist Spacing** – defines the distance between the joists.

![](/files/OITuZvkBfjYjQjAhyZHb)

**FM Module Type**

For Openings – writes opening type.

For Connections – writes join configuration name.

**FM Module Mark** – writes **FM Module Type** + **Mark** (from Floor) + **Mark** (from Opening) + unique number.

**FM Module Preassembled –** writes Yes/No if element is (or is not) included in the preassembly.

*Example:*

*Header2 is included in the preassembly so **FM Module Type** parameter has Opening value, **FM Module Mark** parameter contains **FM Module Type** parameter value (Opening) + current floor **Mark** value (F-1, can be seen near **FM HostMemberSortMark**) + current window **Mark** + unique number.*

![](/files/7ru6ZLVoUhTZREEACtHb)

# Roof Common Joists

**Framing Configuration** may be found in two locations:

![](/files/cQnkfoMXTHThWYGKfgMt)

or:

![](/files/unumFk0MBpxjVXkCh2xC)

### Roof Common Joists

![](/files/cbRnANEK4giRmKNZcA0d)

**Roof Common Joists** – here you can control regular joists (**Common Joist** tab), top (**Rim Joist 2** tab) joists and bottom (**Rim Joist 1** tab) joists:

![](/files/h2m5zqtGKgw5p5qxqzwM)

### Add Joists

![](/files/njpGhi3GBJgFVqKnqnwF)

**Add Joists –** adds joists with rules listed below to the frame. The frame can be created without joists, just using, for example, horizontal elements.

### Align with Project Base Point

![](/files/H2sQ0eBIehOHJL2jBdsA)

**Align with Project Base Point –** allows joists to be positioned not only in relation to each other but according to Revit gridlines.

First step – unclip the state of the Revit **Project Base Point** and move it to the needed position:

![](/files/KdKWulIvVMr7ORPbijHj)

For more convenience, switch on Revit **Work Plane** and move it to the **Project Base Point**. It will help you to understand if the studs or joists are created in the right position:

![](/files/YQVuzjp7A6SEVlma8HWt)

Turn on **Align with Project Base Point** in the **Framing Configuration** dialog:

![](/files/QC1Q47cmmRcdprRV5EoD)

Frame the walls, floors, or roof.

Joists are positioned on the gridlines – and where necessary to fill in gaps or form intersections – so that they always match up across a corridor or room.

Notice how the joists are spaced according to the grid.

![](/files/PMQsKmOCJLcI5wa3kHnd)

In the case you need to relocate the frame, just move the **Project Base Point** to the new position and update the frame!

### Joist Spacing and First/Last Spacing

![](/files/xTM7gp44FtpOn9031cIM)

**Joist Spacing** – defines the distance between the joists.

![](/files/xK9pJV8eDuOrSpRZatMr)
